Help us support our community

Herne Bay Community Counselling relies on the generosity of volunteers and donors to keep our services affordable and accessible. There are several ways you can make a difference.

Why your support matters

As a registered charity, we depend on the goodwill of our community to keep going. Every volunteer hour and every donation — however small — helps us reach more people who need support but cannot afford private therapy.

Whether you are a qualified counsellor, someone who wants to help behind the scenes, or simply someone who believes in what we do, there is a place for you here.

Ways to get involved

Volunteer as a counsellor

If you are a qualified or trainee counsellor who would like to offer their skills on a voluntary or low-cost basis, please contact us. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients in a supportive environment.

Fundraise for us

From sponsored runs to bake sales, community fundraising makes a real difference. Every pound raised goes directly towards subsidising sessions for people who cannot afford to pay. We would love to hear about your fundraising ideas.

Make a donation

A one-off or regular donation helps us maintain our bursary fund and keep our sliding scale fees as low as possible. No amount is too small — even a few pounds can contribute towards a session for someone in need.

Spread the word

Sometimes the most valuable thing you can do is let people know we exist. If you know someone who might benefit from our services, or a local business or organisation that might support us, please share our details.

Volunteering as a counsellor

We welcome applications from counsellors at all stages of their career — whether you are newly qualified, working as an associate, in training, or an experienced practitioner looking to give something back to your community.

Volunteer counsellors give their time freely. Associate counsellors receive a portion of the fee paid by the client for each session. All counsellors work under regular clinical supervision, adhere to the ethical framework of their professional body, and are supported by our team throughout their time with us.

What we look for

  • Qualified to at least diploma level, working as an associate counsellor, or in the final year of a recognised counselling training programme
  • Member of a recognised professional body (BACP, UKCP, NCPS, or equivalent)
  • Commitment to regular supervision and continuing professional development
  • Enhanced DBS check (we can assist with this if needed)
